Boxers before and after fights by Nicolai Howalt. Reminds me of Rineke Dijkstra’s Bullfighters but the subjects are much younger. There is a different feel to these photographs, because Dijkstra is capturing the moment after these men have risked their lives for a cause unknown- while the boys in Howalt’s portraits are young, somewhat innocent, and almost seen to age during the time of the fight. You’re saddened for them, but also potentially must remind yourself that they must be choosing this life, just like the bullfighters.
